A STUDY OF MENTAL DISORDER PATIENTS IN NON-MEDICAL ASYLUMS

Abstract
The present study is purposed to survey 13 Asylums for mental disorders which is approved by the ministry of health and social affairs. The contents of this survey are the facilities and human resources of 13 Asylums, and the analysis about 1,175 mental disorders admitted to 13 Asylum.
The findings are follow.
1. There are 2,085 mental disorders admitted to non-medical Asylums, which correspond to ,2T
beds of mental hospital beds.
2. The average area per one person is only 0.8 pyeung and the capacity of one asylum amount to 160 beds.
3. The facilities and the specialist team for treatment, which is composed of psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse, social worker and psychologist, and the trained manpower for rehabilitation are outstandingly insufficient.
4. The rotation rate by year is low-hospitalization rate is 29.8 persons by a year and discharged rate is 23.1.
5. The admission rate of male is higher than female, the predominant general back grounds are 30 years old, unemployed, irreligion, and low edu¡©cational status.
6. The marriaged are not much and the contin¡©uation of marriatal status is expecially difficult to female.
7. About 45% of mental disorders have relation¡©ship with their family or relatives during admission stage.
8. About 72.4% of mental disorders are admitted by the forced consultant of police and most of admission duration is over one year. (77.7%)
9. By diagnostically schizophrenia are exclusively high. Most popular treatment is tranquilizer, followed by E. S. T. , acupunture, and religious worships. The wards are nearly closed.
